Ricardo Quaresma is predicting a great derby between FC Porto and Benfica. The former Portugal international, 42, spoke during an award ceremony held by Vila Nova de Gaia's city council.
«I think it will be a great game, that classic we haven't seen for some time,» said Quaresma. «FC Porto is showing why they were champions last season and Benfica, which didn't start so well, now has its confidence levels sky high.»
The winger's analysis comes at a time of high confidence within the Porto squad. FC Porto leads the Primeira Liga with 18 points from six wins in six games, holding a two-point advantage over second-placed Benfica. Their last outing was a convincing 4-1 away win at Casa Pia, with goals from André Silva, Jakub Kiwior, Borja Sainz and Santiago Giménez.
Quaresma has no doubts about Porto's title credentials but also warned about Sporting's strength. He believes it would be foolish not to consider them contenders, despite losing important players and manager Rui Borges needing time to adapt.
The next challenge is this Saturday, September 20, at the Estádio do Dragão. The last meeting between the sides ended in a 2-2 draw back in March.
