Former FC Porto player Pablo Daniel Osvaldo is in intensive care in Buenos Aires. The 40-year-old Argentine striker underwent surgery to drain a pleural effusion.

His sister found him in poor health in Banfield, leading to his hospitalisation. Commentator Ángel De Brito said the former player «underwent a resection of lung tissue, with two centimetres extracted from each lung». His medical prognosis is described as reserved.

Osvaldo wore the FC Porto shirt in the first half of the 2015/16 season. He made 12 appearances for the Dragons, scoring one goal and providing one assist, before retiring from professional football in 2020. Earlier this year, the player publicly disclosed his struggle with alcohol and drug addiction.

His career included spells at clubs like Roma, Juventus, Southampton, and Inter Milan, and he represented the Italian national team. FC Porto, the club he once played for, currently sits top of the Primeira Liga with 21 points from seven games. The team now prepares to travel to face 11th-placed Maritimo on October 10th.

The senior squad, led by top scorer Gabri Veiga, remains focused on the competition as news of their former colleague circulates. Their last win, a 3-1 victory over Benfica, extended their lead at the top to five points. The full squad list is available on the team page.
