FC Porto's Danish midfielder Victor Froholdt suffered a serious cerebral concussion in the closing minutes of the team's 1-0 victory over Moreirense. The incident, which led to the sending off of opponent Liberato, happened at the Estádio do Dragão in front of over 46,000 spectators and forced the activation of the suspected concussion protocol.

Froholdt, voted Porto's best player last season, collided with Liberato's elbow and immediately lost consciousness. Porto defender Jan Bednarek was first to realise the severity, turning his teammate onto his back as emergency medical teams rushed onto the pitch.

The referee stopped play instantly. Players from both teams formed a circle around Froholdt to protect his privacy and prevent cameras from filming the medical treatment. The Danish international was carried off the pitch on a stretcher by firefighters, but had already regained consciousness on the turf, as the club later confirmed. Liberato, who committed the foul, left the pitch visibly emotional and in tears, comforted by his own teammates after realising the seriousness of the challenge.

FC Porto remains the outright leader of the Primeira Liga with 12 points, from four wins in four matches. The team maintains a perfect defensive record, with nine goals scored and none conceded, holding a two-point lead over Sporting CP.

After the match, both managers addressed Froholdt's condition. Moreirense head coach Vasco Botelho offered words of support. "Quero deixar uma palavra ao Victor, um grande craque do nosso campeonato. Pelo que sei, o pior já passou, faltam só alguns exames de precaução," he said.

FC Porto manager Francesco Farioli gave a more direct update received from the medical department. "Recebi agora uma mensagem do médico. O Victor está consciente e vai fazer os exames." the Italian stated.

The player was taken to a hospital for further scans to rule out any additional injuries. His condition will be closely monitored in the coming hours and days. The club's medical staff are following all established protocols for cerebral concussions, a process that can involve a mandatory period of rest.

This situation creates a doubt over the Danish midfielder's availability for the team's next fixture. FC Porto travels to face Casa Pia on September 12th, with the opponents currently sitting 18th in the table. All of the team's upcoming matches are listed in our fixtures schedule. Losing Froholdt, a key component in midfield, would be a significant setback for a team aiming to maintain its perfect start.

The squad has several midfield options, which can be viewed on the full squad list. The immediate focus, however, remains on Victor Froholdt's wellbeing as the club awaits the results of his medical examinations.
