Porto keeps Diogo Costa and has received no offers
Porto announced that goalkeeper Diogo Costa remains under contract and that the SAD has not received any official approach from interested clubs. The captain arrived in Lisbon on Wednesday morning from the United States and begins a break starting Thursday.
Why does the club want to keep the captain?
Francesco Farioli stressed that Costa is “our captain and will continue to be our captain”. The coach explained that the keeper is focused on the national team but will have days to recharge before returning to Olival. The aim is for him to be present at the members' presentation party scheduled for July 25, although this may delay his availability for the Supertaça against Torreense.
What is the market impact?
Costa’s performances at the 2026 World Cup raised his market value and placed him as Portugal’s best player of the tournament. Despite heightened interest, O Jogo confirmed that no proposal has reached André Villas‑Boas’s administration. Until the end of August there could still be movement, but the club’s stance remains firm: only a major European side offering national and international titles would be considered.
What’s next for Diogo Costa?
The goalkeeper will return to Olival before the England training camp (July 13‑18) and, if all goes as planned, will take part in the squad presentation to members. If there are no updates by then, it will be the moment to see whether he accepts the challenge of swapping the number 99 for the shirt 2, a tribute to Jorge Costa, as suggested by Villas‑Boas. Meanwhile, Diogo Costa stays the highest‑paid player in the squad and a fan favourite.
