FC Porto will face Académico de Viseu in the Taça da Liga quarter-finals on October 28th. The Portuguese champions' fixture was announced by the Liga Portuguesa de Futebol Profissional (LPFP) last Friday.
The Dragões will host the II Liga side at the Estádio do Dragão, with kick-off scheduled for 8:30 PM. This will be the second meeting between the two teams this season, following Porto's 3-0 league victory. The team approaches this cup tie in excellent form, sitting top of the Primeira Liga with 12 points from four wins in four matches. Their defence remains unbreached, claiming a goal difference of +9. They hold a two-point lead over second-placed Sporting CP. Their next league fixture is an away match against 18th-placed Casa Pia on September 12th. The full schedule can be found on our fixtures page.
The remaining last-eight matches have also been set. Runners-up Sporting will host II Liga champions Marítimo on October 27th at 8:15 PM. The following day, record eight-time Taça da Liga winners Benfica play at home against Gil Vicente at 8:45 PM. Sporting de Braga, with three titles, rounds off the action on October 29th, two hours before Benfica's match, when they host Famalicão. The current trophy holders, Vitória de Guimarães, failed to qualify for this stage after finishing ninth in the I Liga last season.
FC Porto has only one Taça da Liga title to its name. It shares this tally with clubs like Vitória de Setúbal, Moreirense, and Vitória de Guimarães. In contrast, Benfica dominates the competition's history with eight wins, followed by Sporting with four and Braga with three. This edition presents a clear opportunity for the Dragons to improve their record in a domestic cup. Sérgio Conceição's side has shown impressive defensive solidity, which will be a key asset in the knockout phase. The updated league table is available on our standings page.
Ahead of the Casa Pia match, Porto's squad is focused on maintaining the consistency that has taken them to the top of the table. The two-point lead is a good cushion, but the team cannot lower its intensity. The match against Académico de Viseu, while still some weeks away, will serve as an important test on the road to a potential trophy. The repeat of the league fixture, where Porto were clearly superior, provides confidence, but cup matches always have a different dynamic. The squad composition, which can be viewed on the squad page, has shown depth in several positions.
FC Porto thus enters a decisive phase of the season, aiming to compete on all fronts. The Taça da Liga quarter-final is scheduled for October 28th at 8:30 PM at the Estádio do Dragão.
